Overview

Advance Ashtanga yoga teacher training consists of asana practice, deeper teaching methodologies, Pranayama and meditation, and Bandhas, Kriyas and Mudras. If the level 1 ashtanga yoga teacher-training course focuses on building strength and stamina in your body and mind, the 250+ hours of advance course gives you an insight on maintaining the same strength and stamina. Not only that, it enables you to channel it in the right directions.

During the 4-week long course, you learn to build a good rapport with your students, understand their positives and negatives and work with their mind, body and breath in a way they feel confident and energized about their practice.

Yoga Dhaama is an exclusive hermitage for IndeaYoga’s teacher training programs. Located just 5 kms away from the city center, the Yoga Dhaama is attached to a beautiful yoga park, which the trainees will be allowed to use during the free hours for meditation, pranayama and walks.

Food - Organic, Vegetarian and Sattvik


 

The food provided here is Sattvic and only vegetarian. The food menu is standardized and students will be provided with 3 meals every day. The food served is mainly organic and nutritional, keeping in mind the requirements of the students practice. All meals will be served in the Dining Hall only and students will not be allowed to eat in the rooms. Fruits and other snacks will be available in the premises which can be bought by the students. Coffee and Tea will also be available throughout the day!

NOTE: Your stay will also include a savory Gala Dinner at an Indian Home.

 

Travel


 

Pick up and drop facility from the airport to Yoga Dhaama will be arranged for the students on additional charges. For local travel needs, a Travel Desk facility will be made available, at the reception, to all students.

Cycles will also be available, which can be rented by the students for small weekend rides! If a student still has some energy and time left after his/her practice and study.

Chanting & Prayer

A congenial atmosphere plays a vital role in the accomplishment of any task that we undertake. Prayers, in the form of shlokas create such congenial atmosphere before practicing yoga. When chanted or sung with feeling, prayers create an atmosphere for learning. It also releases emotional suppression, which is one of the root causes of most of the problems and ailments in this modern era.

 


 
Prerequisites

Students applying for the advance level Teacher Training Course in Ashtanga yoga should have completed the level 1 Ashtanga Teacher Training Course here at IndeaYoga under Yogacharya Bharath Shetty. Those who have done the course in Hatha yoga, need to first enrol for Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Style Classes and practice here for a month.

 


Course Curriculum

The Advance Course has been specially designed to give yoga students the opportunity for personal development and to intensively deepen their own practice.

Asana practice and technique: One will attend two strong asana practices per day. Morning asanas cover Ashtanga Vinyasa primary or intermediate series. Afternoon practices will primarily incorporate Indea Innovation series - back bending, hip opening and balancing asanas (including Adhomukha Vrikshasana and Pincha Mayūrāsana). Teachers are also engaged in understanding the key points in teaching certain asanas to students.

Chanting: Students must learn the IndeaYoga opening and closing prayer that are chanted before and after every session

Pranayama: A selection of Pranayama techniques will be taught and practiced during the course.

Meditation: There will regularly be short sessions of meditation (around 15-30 minutes per session).

Anatomy: This session covers a number of conditions and diseases and how to treat these with yoga.

Presentation and yoga therapy: Students are required to prepare a mini presentation/thesis/dossier on a disease/ailment/condition (not necessarily covered in the first two weeks anatomy classes). Students are required to submit this for review and then present to the class their chosen condition and how to treat it with yoga.

Bandas: Jalandara Banda, Uddiyana Banda, Moola Banda and Maha Banda.

Kriyas: Jalaneti, Sutra Neti, Kaphalabati, Trataka, Shankprakshalana, and Dhouti. In addition to learning the technique, students will have the opportunity to gain personal experience in performing these kriyas during the course.

Mudras: Yoni mudra, bhairava mudra, hridaya mudra, shambavi mudra, nasikagra dristi, shanmukhi mudra, etc.

Philosophy: Patanjali Yoga Sutra (Raja Yoga) - Vibhūti Pada (chapter 3), Kaivalya Pada (chapter 4), Karmayoga Sloka Sangrahah (Bhagavad Gita), Atma (Nirvana) Shataka. The following subjects will be covered too: Chakras and Ayurveda principles.

> What is the duration of the course?

The duration of the course is 4 full weeks. Classes will be conducted from Monday to Saturday. Sunday is a rest day.

> How many students are accepted in each intake?

IndeaYoga only accepts a maximum of 24 students per course.

 

> How do I qualify to enroll for TTC (Level 2)?

You need to have completed the level 1 teacher training course here at IndeaYoga.

 

> What is the language used in the course?

English only.

 

> Will there be a written and a practical exam at the end of the course?

Yes, you will be assessed in both written and teaching evaluation exams at the end of the course. The assessment exams are structured to meet the standards of the Yoga Alliance.

 

> What accreditation will I receive after completing TTC (Level 2)?

Upon meeting the attendance and disciplinary requirements of the TTC and Yoga Alliance, and upon passing your written and teaching evaluation exams, you will receive IndeaYoga Training (IYT500Hrs+) and RYT500 (Yoga Alliance certification) certificates.

 

> Will a course manual be provided?

Yes, you will be provided with a training manual. You will also receive an optional list of additional/ recommended reading titles, which you can purchase from bookstores here in Mysore.  

 

> What am I required to bring along for the course?

Apart from your own travel and daily necessities, please ensure that you bring along your own yoga mat, notebook and some pens for all the sessions.

 

> How much is the course fee?

> How do I register and pay for the fees? 

Please complete the online application form. An email will be sent to you regarding the instructions on fee remittance once your application is confirmed. Full tuition fee should be paid in advance, in order to secure your participation in the teacher training course. Fees paid will neither be refunded nor transferred under any circumstances.

> What if I don’t want to become a yoga teacher after completing the IYT500Hrs+? 

There are always a small number of students who take the IYT500Hrs+ without the set goal of becoming a teacher. Their reasons for this approach includes desire to go deeper in their personal practice and to gain real knowledge and experience of immersing in a yogic lifestyle, under the guidance and tutelage of a yoga master.

Whatever your personal goals are, IndeaYoga always welcomes you open-heartedly.

 

> Where can I stay during the training?

The teacher training courses are conducted in a separate, dedicated building called Yoga Dhaama that is suitable for an intensive course like this one. We are having rooms with attached bathroom and other facilities for the students to stay . Contact us for more information. 

> What are the meal Options?

We provide 3 meals a day. The food is hygienic, sattvik and vegetarian. Contact us for more information. 

> What if I have to miss a few days or hours?

Due to the intensive nature of the course, you are required to be available for the entire duration of your training. Punctuality is very important. On-site hours meet and surpass the Yoga Alliance minimum and categories of training. In addition, we encourage you to lead a yogic lifestyle throughout your course of study. It is not advisable to schedule other activities or take other part-time courses. We have set aside this whole time to be with you and expect and you to dedicate yourself for the whole duration.
